SEO audit

A Shopify SEO audit that tells you what to fix first

Not a 200-row export from a crawler. A ranked list of the problems costing you revenue, the collection pages you are missing and the exact changes to make in your theme.

Why most audits fail

Audits usually end up in a folder nobody opens

Issue 01

Everything is "high priority"

Tool-generated audits flag hundreds of issues with the same severity. Missing alt text on blog images sits next to a broken canonical on your best seller.

Issue 02

Advice Shopify does not allow

Generic checklists tell you to remove URL prefixes or edit the sitemap. Neither is possible on Shopify, and your developer loses a week finding that out.

Issue 03

Nothing about growth

Fixing errors protects what you have. Most audits never ask which buyer keywords you have no page for, which is where the new revenue is.

What is inside

Technical health, plus the pages you should have

We split the audit into two halves. The first protects what you already rank for. The second shows where the next revenue comes from.

  • Crawl and indexing: duplicates, tag and filter URLs, orphaned pages, redirects, sitemap coverage
  • Structured data: Product, Offer, reviews and breadcrumbs, including conflicts from apps
  • Theme and apps: leftover code, script weight, Core Web Vitals from field data
  • Collection gap analysis: buyer keywords with no matching collection page
  • Content gap analysis: guides and comparisons your competitors rank with
  • Cannibalization: two or more of your pages splitting the same query
  • International: Markets setup, hreflang and translated content, where relevant
  • Competitors: who ranks for your money keywords and what their pages have that yours lack
Timeline

From access to action plan

Timelines depend on catalog size. A few hundred SKUs moves faster than 50,000.

  1. Day 1

    Access and kickoff

Staff access to Shopify, Search Console and Analytics, plus a call about margins, best sellers and the products you want to push.

  2. Week 1

    Crawl and data pull

Full crawl of the store, Search Console performance and indexing data, Shopify sales data, and keyword and competitor data from Ahrefs and Semrush.

  3. Week 2

    Analysis and gap mapping

Issues ranked by revenue impact. Missing collection pages and content mapped to keywords, with the page type page one rewards.

  4. End of week 2 or 3

    Walkthrough

We walk your team through the findings on a call, then hand over the report and the prioritized fix sheet.

Our take

Why the gap analysis matters more than the error list

Technical errors are the part of an audit people expect. They matter, and on Shopify the usual suspects are well known: duplicate collection-product paths, indexable tag pages, stray filter URLs and schema clashes. Our technical SEO page covers them in detail.

But a clean site with the wrong pages still does not rank. The bigger finding in most of our audits is the list of buyer keywords with no page behind them. A store selling sofas with one "Sofas" collection has nothing for "sleeper sofa", "small sectional" or "leather sofa", and each of those is a separate audience with separate search volume.

What happens after#

You can take the fix sheet to your own developer. Most clients hand it to us and roll it into a monthly plan, where the missing pages become the first collection pages we build. For stores with tens of thousands of SKUs, the audit also feeds a large catalog plan.

If you want to check your own store first, our free Shopify SEO checklist covers the basics.

FAQ

Shopify SEO audit questions

What does a Shopify SEO audit include?

Ours covers crawl and indexing, duplicate URLs, tag and filter pages, redirects, structured data, theme and app code, Core Web Vitals, cannibalization and international setup. It also includes a collection gap analysis and a content gap analysis, which show the buyer keywords you have no page for. Every issue is ranked by revenue impact, not by how many times a tool flagged it.

How long does a full Shopify SEO audit take?

Typically two to three weeks from the day we get access, depending on catalog size and how many markets you run. A store with a few hundred products and one market is on the faster end. A store with 50,000 SKUs and several Markets storefronts takes longer, because the crawl, the gap analysis and the hreflang checks all scale with it.

What is the difference between the free mini audit and the full audit?

The free mini audit is a short summary of your biggest technical issues and your most obvious missed keywords. It is a quick way to see how we think. The full audit covers every area of the site, maps missing collection pages and content to keywords, ranks all fixes by revenue impact, and ends with a walkthrough call with your team.

Can my own developer implement the fixes?

Yes. Every item in the fix sheet names the Liquid file, app or admin setting involved and what to change. Most fixes are theme edits a competent Shopify developer can make in hours. Content and collection work takes longer, which is why many clients ask us to handle it as part of a monthly plan.

Do you need access to our Shopify admin for the audit?

For the full audit, yes. We ask for staff access to Shopify plus Search Console and Google Analytics. Search Console shows how Google actually crawls and indexes the site, and Shopify sales data lets us rank issues by revenue. The free mini audit works from public data only, so all we need is your store URL.
