Chinese brands going global

Google SEO for Chinese brands selling to the West

Strong products, strong Amazon sales, and a Shopify store that Google and ChatGPT barely notice. We are based in Shenzhen and have spent 8+ years inside Chinese ecommerce companies. We build the English content, trust signals and international setup that turn an Amazon seller into a brand people search for by name.

The problem

Where Amazon-first brands get stuck

Issue 01

Amazon owns the customer

The traffic, the reviews and the data live on Amazon. Fees and ad costs keep rising, and your own store only gets branded traffic from people who already found you there.

Issue 02

English that reads like a translation

Product copy written from spec sheets and supplier documents. Western shoppers notice, and so does Google. Pages rank poorly and convert worse.

Issue 03

No entity, no trust

Google and AI assistants cannot tell who you are. No real people on the about page, no Wikidata entry, no press, and “is [brand] legit” returns a Reddit thread.

Issue 04

Markets and hreflang misconfigured

US, UK, EU and Australian versions competing with each other, the wrong currency in results, and broken internal links between language versions.

Issue 05

A small catalog of similar products

Thirty products that look alike and one “All products” collection. Search demand exists for each use case, but there is no page for any of them.

Issue 06

Agencies on a different clock

Your boss wants numbers this week and decisions happen in a WeChat group. A Western agency replying 48 hours later, 12 time zones away, slows everything down.

From factory to brand

The last mile is a search result

You already make a better product. Western buyers still have to find it, trust it and choose it over the brand they already know.

International SEO

One Shopify store, many markets

Shopify Markets, correct hreflang and market-specific content let one store rank in each country with the right language, currency and URLs.

Typical markets for our Chinese clients. Each needs its own hreflang, pricing and shipping content.
Why us

Based in Shenzhen, writing for Western buyers

Zack Franklin grew up in Detroit and has lived in Shenzhen for more than eight years. He has been a marketing and operations consultant to Chinese 9-figure Amazon companies, and won the “Hardest Worker” award at Valuelink, a top-5 Chinese Amazon seller, ahead of 700 employees. He has also made $3M+ in sales on his own Shopify stores.

So we understand both sides. We know how a Shenzhen brand makes decisions, and we know what makes an American or British shopper trust a store. Our content is written for native English readers. Every article is AI-drafted, human-edited, and read and fact-checked by at least three people before it goes live.

Shenzhen is home to 600,000+ Amazon seller companies. We work at Shenzhen speed. Meet Zack.

Process

How we work with Chinese brands

  1. Page-one research and audit

We search your categories in each target market and study what Google rewards. Then we audit the store: technical issues, cannibalization, hreflang, thin pages.

  2. See brand trust SEO

    Trust and entity foundations

About, warranty, shipping and returns pages written for Western shoppers. Organization schema, Wikidata and consistent brand facts across the web.

  3. Collection pages and content

Pages for every use case your products serve, plus buying guides and comparisons in native English. Around 20 of each a month on our standard plan.

  4. International setup

Shopify Markets, hreflang, currency and language versions checked page by page, so each market ranks the right URL.

  5. Links and digital PR

White-hat link building and PR in Western publications, available at extra cost. New sites need this to move quickly.

  6. AI search visibility

Making sure ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews describe your brand accurately and name it for the right questions.

The bigger picture

From factory to brand

Most of our Chinese clients follow the same path. Knowing where you are on it tells us what to build first.

Stage one: the factory#

Many brands start as OEM or ODM factories making products for other people's labels. At this stage the website is a B2B catalog for inquiries. We do not build those on this site, but our sister team builds factory websites, and we can introduce you.

Stage two: Amazon#

The factory launches its own label on Amazon. Sales grow fast, and so do fees, ad costs and dependence on one platform. The Shopify store exists but gets little traffic. If you are moving more of the business to your own store, read our Amazon to Shopify guide.

Stage three: your own store#

Now the Shopify store needs to earn traffic on its own. This is where most of our work happens: collection pages for every use case, buying guides, technical fixes and hreflang across markets. Our automotive accessories client was here: 30 similar products, DR 29, ads already running. We built 360+ pages and fixed their international SEO.

Stage four: a brand people search for#

The final step is trust. Western shoppers search your name plus “legit”, “reviews” and “reddit” before they buy. AI assistants summarize you from whatever they can find. Our brand trust SEO work shapes those results. Being named in ChatGPT answers comes next, under GEO.

People also ask

Questions from Chinese brands

Can we work with you over WeChat?

Yes. Most of our Chinese clients run a WeChat group with us for day-to-day questions, alongside email and scheduled calls. We are in Shenzhen, on the same clock as your team, so questions get answered during your working day. You also get a monthly report and a live Google Sheet showing every page we have published and what it targets.

Why build Google traffic if Amazon is already working?

Because Amazon controls the customer, the data and the fees, and one policy change can cut your sales overnight. Google and AI search traffic to your own store builds an asset you own. Our automotive accessories client was Amazon-first with ads running. After seven months of SEO the Shopify store had earned $758,772.94 in organic revenue.

Who writes the English content?

Articles are AI-drafted from our research, then edited by humans and read and fact-checked by at least three people before publishing. We write for native English readers in each market, so American pages use American spelling and units and UK pages use British ones. Your team reviews technical facts, and we handle tone, structure and search intent.

How do you handle multiple countries and languages?

We set up Shopify Markets and hreflang so each country sees the right URL, currency and language. Then we check it page by page, because most problems hide in details: broken internal links between versions, self-referencing tags missing, or US and UK pages cannibalizing each other. Fixing exactly these issues was part of our automotive accessories case study.

Will Western shoppers trust a Chinese brand?

Many already do, when the brand gives them reasons to. That means a real about page with people and the factory, clear warranty and returns terms, a US or EU contact point, independent reviews, and consistent facts about the company across the web. We build those signals so the search results for your brand name reassure people instead of worrying them.

Can you also build our factory website?

Not on this site. SmartEcomSEO focuses on Shopify SEO and GEO for brands selling to consumers. Factory and B2B inquiry websites are handled by our sister team, and we are happy to introduce you. If you sell wholesale through Shopify, our B2B SEO service covers that side of the business.
