Put your own numbers in and see what extra organic traffic could be worth in revenue and gross profit each month. No email required.

## Run your own numbers

## What the calculator asks for

The calculator is below. It uses five inputs, and all of them are in your Shopify admin or Google Search Console.

- **Organic sessions per month.** From Shopify's Sessions by traffic source report, or Google Search Console clicks as a close stand-in. Use a typical month, not your best one.
- **Conversion rate.** The share of organic sessions that end in an order. Shopify shows this under Reports. High-ticket stores often convert below 1%, while lower-priced stores are often higher.
- **Average order value (AOV).** Organic AOV if you can filter it; store-wide AOV if not.
- **Gross margin.** What's left after product cost, shipping and payment fees, as a percentage. This turns revenue into money you can actually spend.
- **Expected growth.** The percentage increase in organic sessions you want to model. Try a cautious and an ambitious figure and compare them.

### How it works

Extra sessions = current sessions × growth. Extra orders = extra sessions × conversion rate. Extra revenue = extra orders × AOV. Extra gross profit = extra revenue × margin. Compare that monthly gross profit with the cost of the SEO work.

> **Worked example (illustrative inputs, not a client):** 10,000 organic sessions a month, 50% growth, 1% conversion rate, $1,200 AOV and 35% margin. That's 5,000 extra sessions, 50 extra orders, $60,000 extra revenue and $21,000 extra gross profit a month.

The example shows why we focus on high-ticket brands: with a $1,200 AOV, a handful of extra orders covers a month of work. At a $30 AOV the same traffic growth produces $1,500 of revenue.

## Three things the number leaves out

### Compounding

The calculator shows one month. Pages that rank keep ranking, so the value of each month’s work carries into the next year.

### Assisted sales

High-ticket buyers often read a buying guide, leave, and return by typing your brand name. Shopify credits the last click, so organic is usually undercounted.

### Time to results

New pages typically take two to four months to settle. Model growth over six to twelve months, not the first few weeks.

## From estimate to plan

A calculator can tell you whether the math is worth exploring. It can't tell you how much growth your catalog can actually support. For that, run the [Shopify SEO fit score](/tools/shopify-seo-fit-score/), compare the cost of our [plans](/pricing/), or read what the work produced in our [case studies](/case-studies/), including one brand that added about $100,000 a month in revenue.

## Frequently asked questions

### How accurate is an SEO ROI calculator?

It is only as accurate as the inputs and the growth assumption. The arithmetic is simple and exact; the uncertainty is in how much traffic growth your store can achieve. Use your real Shopify numbers, model a cautious and an ambitious scenario, and treat the result as a range for planning, not a forecast.

### What growth percentage should I use?

Start cautious. A store with few collection pages and a lot of untapped keywords has more room than one that already ranks for most of its category. Try a low and a high figure, then use our fit score to judge which end is more realistic. Both of our published case studies started from a low base, which left a lot of room to grow.

### Should I use revenue or gross profit to judge SEO?

Gross profit. Revenue makes every channel look good. What matters is whether the extra margin from organic orders is higher than the monthly cost of the work. That is why the calculator asks for your margin and shows gross profit next to revenue.
