# Brand reputation SEO for Chinese brands in Western markets

Before a shopper in Ohio or Manchester spends $300 with a brand from Shenzhen, they search “is [brand] legit”. What Google and ChatGPT show on that page decides the sale. We shape it: your own trust pages, review platforms, Reddit and forums, Wikidata and the knowledge panel, and press.

## What shoppers find when they check you out

### “Is [brand] legit” returns a Reddit thread

Or a scam-checker site with a low score based on your domain age and a hidden WHOIS record. Neither was written by anyone who bought from you.

### A thin review profile

A handful of Trustpilot reviews, mostly about slow shipping during peak season, and no Google seller ratings at all.

### An about page with no people

Stock photos, “we are passionate about quality”, and no names, no faces, no factory, no founding year.

### Policies copied from a template

Warranty, returns and shipping pages that contradict each other, or mention a country you do not ship to.

### Contact details that worry people

A Gmail address and a Shenzhen street address, with no US or EU returns address, phone number or support hours.

### AI assistants guessing

ChatGPT describes your brand from reseller listings and old Amazon reviews, because nothing better exists.

## AI answers are built from sources you can influence

ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews summarize a brand from its own pages plus third-party sources. Give them good material and the summary improves.

## Every brand search needs a page that answers it

| | What the shopper wants | The page that answers it |
|---|---|---|
| [brand] legit | Proof you are a real company | About page with people, factory, founding year and company details |
| [brand] reviews | Independent opinions | Trustpilot and Google seller ratings, plus on-site reviews with schema |
| [brand] warranty | What happens if it breaks | Warranty page with terms and a step-by-step claim process |
| [brand] shipping to UK | Duties, delivery time, returns | A shipping page for each market you sell in |
| [brand] reddit | Unfiltered owner experiences | An official brand account answering real threads |
| [brand] vs [competitor] | An honest comparison | A comparison page on your own site |

## How we build Western trust

1. **Audit your brand results and AI answers**: We search your name with legit, reviews, reddit, warranty and competitor names in each market, and ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini the same questions.

2. **Fix the pages you own**: About, warranty, shipping, returns and contact pages rewritten for Western shoppers, with real people, a US or EU contact point and consistent facts.

3. **Structure your entity**: Organization schema with sameAs links, a Wikidata item where you qualify, and the same name, founding date and address everywhere.

4. **Grow independent reviews**: Post-purchase review requests, Google seller ratings through Merchant Center, Trustpilot, and product reviews with valid schema.

5. **Show up where owners talk**: An honest, clearly labelled brand presence on Reddit and niche forums. Answering questions, not planting posts.

6. **Earn press and links**: Digital PR in Western publications and reviews from relevant sites, through our link building service at extra cost.

## Why trust is an SEO problem

### Why it matters more for Chinese brands

Western shoppers have been burned by drop-shipping stores that disappear after a sale. Fair or not, a new brand shipping from China starts with less benefit of the doubt. Google's quality guidelines ask raters to check who is behind a site and what others say about it. AI assistants do something similar when they answer “is this brand legit”. Real brands with real factories often lose this test because they never published the evidence.

### Wikidata and the knowledge panel

A knowledge panel is Google's summary of an entity. You cannot buy one, but you can make it easier for Google to build one: a Wikidata item with accurate facts, Organization schema that links to your official profiles, and consistent details across your site, Amazon storefront, social profiles and press. Wikipedia is a different matter. Most brands do not meet its notability rules, and we will not pretend otherwise.

### US and EU contact details

A returns address in the US or EU, a support phone number and published support hours reassure shoppers more than any badge. If you use a 3PL or an EU representative, say so on the contact and returns pages.

### What we will not do

No fake reviews, no undisclosed Reddit accounts, no paid “best of” lists presented as independent. These get found out, and when they do, the “legit” search gets worse. Trust built this way lasts.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can you remove negative reviews or Reddit threads?

No, and anyone who promises to is taking a risk with your brand. Reviews and threads written by real customers stay up. What we can do is make sure the full picture shows: your own clear trust pages, more reviews from happy customers, an official brand account that answers complaints publicly, and independent coverage. Over time those push the complaint threads down.

### Do we need a Wikipedia page?

Usually not, and most brands would not qualify under Wikipedia’s notability rules anyway. Wikidata is more realistic. It holds structured facts about your company, such as name, founding date, headquarters and official website, and Google and AI systems read it. Combined with Organization schema and consistent details across your profiles, it helps search engines recognize your brand as a real entity.

### Do we need a US or EU address?

It helps a lot. Shoppers want to know where returns go and who answers when something breaks. A US returns address through a 3PL, an EU representative, a support phone number and published hours all reduce doubt. Put them on your contact, shipping and returns pages, and keep them consistent everywhere your brand appears online.

### Does brand trust affect rankings?

Indirectly, yes. Google asks its quality raters to judge who runs a site and what its reputation is, and it builds its systems to reward what raters would rate highly. More practically, trust affects click-through and conversion. A store that ranks but loses shoppers at the “is it legit” step loses the sale anyway.

### How long before AI assistants describe us differently?

Assistants that search the web, such as ChatGPT with search, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, can pick up changes within weeks once new pages are crawled and cited. Answers from a model’s built-in knowledge change more slowly, often only when a new model version is trained. That is why third-party coverage matters: it feeds both.
