Amazon to Shopify is a build, not a migration. How to turn Brand Analytics data into collection pages, avoid duplicate listing copy, decide where Google traffic buys and earn the trust Amazon gave you for free.

## Key takeaways

- Moving from Amazon to Shopify has no redirects to map. The real work is building authority on a new domain from almost nothing.
- Don't paste Amazon listing copy into Shopify. When the same text sits on amazon.com and on a new domain, Google has little reason to show the new one.
- Amazon Brand Analytics' Search Query Performance report is first-party buyer data you can use to plan Google collection pages.
- A 30-product automotive accessories brand went from about zero to almost 100,000 organic visits a month with 360+ pages, and made $758,772.94 in organic revenue in 7 months.
- Build more pages than you have products: one collection for every buyer search that deserves its own results page.

Most Amazon-first brands start a Shopify store for the same reasons. Fees keep rising, the customer belongs to Amazon, and one policy change or suppressed listing can stop the business overnight. The goal is a brand site that wins its own customers from Google and AI search.

Amazon to Shopify is a different job from other migrations. There's no old website, so there are no redirects to map and no rankings to protect. The hard part is the opposite: building authority from almost nothing, in a niche where your own Amazon listings may already hold the top spots.

We work with a lot of these brands from Shenzhen, where Amazon sellers are everywhere. Here's the process that has worked for them, with one case study and its numbers.

## What carries over from Amazon, and what doesn't

| Amazon asset | Useful on Shopify? | How to use it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Brand Analytics search query data | Yes, very | Seeds keyword research with real buyer queries |
| Product photos and A+ images | Yes | Reuse the images; rewrite the text |
| Listing titles and bullets | As research only | Copying them creates duplicate content |
| Customer reviews | As research only | Mine them for FAQs, objections and use cases; collect your own reviews on Shopify |
| Brand search demand | Yes | People already search your brand name; make sure your site ranks for it |
| GTINs and barcodes | Yes | Use the same GTINs in Shopify so Merchant Center can match your products |
| Amazon rankings | No | They don't transfer to Google |
| Buyer contact data | No | Amazon restricts how you can use it |

### Duplicate listing copy is the first trap

The fastest way to fill a Shopify catalog is to paste in your Amazon titles and bullets. It's also the fastest way to make sure Google shows Amazon instead of you. When the same text sits on amazon.com and on a new, low-authority domain, Google has little reason to prefer the new one.

Write new product copy for Shopify. Keep the facts, drop the keyword-packed Amazon title format, and add what Amazon's layout won't let you say: detailed specs, fitment tables, installation guides, comparisons. Our guide to [Shopify duplicate content](/blog/shopify-duplicate-content/) covers the on-site side of the same problem.

## Turn Amazon search data into Google keywords

If your brand is enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry, Brand Analytics includes the Search Query Performance report. It shows the search queries that led shoppers to your products, with impressions, clicks, add-to-carts and purchases. That's first-party buyer data most brands starting on Google don't have.

Amazon queries and Google queries overlap, but they aren't the same. Amazon shoppers are ready to buy. Google searchers include people still researching, comparing and asking questions. Map one onto the other:

| Amazon query (buyer) | Google query cluster | Shopify page |
| --- | --- | --- |
| motorcycle phone mount | motorcycle phone mount, best phone mount for motorcycle | Collection: Phone Mounts for Motorcycles |
| steering wheel lock | best steering wheel lock, car security devices | Collection: Car Security Devices |
| semi truck phone holder | phone holder for semi trucks, trucker accessories | Collection: Phone Holders for Semi Trucks |
| (rare on Amazon) | how to stop a car from being stolen | Guide, linking to the security collection |
| (rare on Amazon) | [your brand] vs [competitor] | Comparison page |

(Illustrative keywords for an automotive accessories brand.)

The first three rows are the money: collection pages built around how people search. The last two are content Amazon doesn't let you publish, and the kind AI assistants like to cite. Before writing any of them, do what Zack tells every client: look at page one, because Google shows you exactly what it rewards.

## Build more pages than you have products

A 30-product brand with 30 product pages and a homepage gives Google almost nothing to rank. One product can match many buyer searches, and every search that deserves its own results page deserves its own collection.

That's the approach we took with a Chinese automotive accessories brand.

> **Case study: 30 products, DR 29, almost 100,000 visits a month:** An Amazon-first automotive accessories brand with only 30 similar products, a DR 29 site and ads already running. The goal was to beat their #1 competitor. We built 360+ pages, including collection pages like "X for Motorcycles", "Car Security X" and "X for Semi Trucks", with hundreds of thousands of words and thousands of internal links, and fixed international SEO issues such as broken internal links and cannibalization. Organic traffic went from roughly zero to almost 100,000 visits a month, with a traffic value of $54,000+ a month. The store made $758,772.94 in organic revenue in 7 months, now adds $100,000+ a month in revenue, and outranks every competitor for every keyword in the niche.

Read the full [automotive accessories case study](/case-studies/chinese-tech-brand-seo-case-study/).

The pattern behind those 360+ pages:

- **Use-case collections:** one per vehicle type, activity or problem the products solve.
- **Feature collections:** waterproof, magnetic, wireless and the other attributes buyers type into search.
- **Guides and comparisons:** answers to the questions buyers ask before they buy, each linking to the right collection.
- **Internal links everywhere:** products to collections, guides to collections, collections to each other.

Handles matter here too. `/collections/phone-mounts-for-motorcycles` says what the page is; `/collections/pm-moto-2` doesn't. See [Shopify URL structure](/blog/shopify-url-structure/). Our [collection page SEO](/shopify-seo-services/collection-page-seo/) service is built around this model.

> **Small catalog, low prices:** This works when products carry enough margin to pay for the content. A 12-product store selling $30 items usually can't earn the investment back from organic search alone.

## Decide where Google traffic should buy

The awkward question for Amazon sellers: if someone finds you on Google, should they buy on your site or on Amazon? You have options, and you can mix them.

| Option | How it works | Trade-off |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Buy on Shopify | Standard Shopify checkout; you own the customer | Some shoppers trust Amazon more than a brand they just met |
| Buy with Prime on Shopify | Amazon's MCF and Buy with Prime app shows Prime delivery on your site | Amazon fees apply, and inventory sits in Amazon's network |
| Send to Amazon | Amazon Attribution links from your site to your listings | You lose the customer, but the Brand Referral Bonus can lower fees |

Amazon's Brand Referral Bonus pays Brand Registry sellers a bonus on sales driven from outside Amazon, tracked with Amazon Attribution. Amazon advertises an average of 10% of sales, and rates vary by category. For some brands, a "Buy on Amazon" option on a few products is a sensible bridge while the site builds trust.

Two cautions. First, watch price consistency: Amazon's pricing policies can affect your featured offer if the same item is noticeably cheaper elsewhere, so check before you undercut Amazon on your own site. Second, if you fulfill Shopify orders from FBA stock, check which Amazon app you're on. Amazon has announced it's retiring its older MCF app for Shopify in favor of the combined MCF and Buy with Prime app.

## Win your own brand name first

Brand searches are the easiest traffic you'll ever rank for, and Amazon sellers often lose them. Search your brand name today and you'll usually see your Amazon listing, your Amazon storefront, a few resellers and maybe a review site. Your new Shopify store has to earn its place at the top of that page.

- **Homepage and About page titles** that use the exact brand name as buyers type it, including the English spelling if your registered name differs.
- **Organization schema** that ties the brand name, logo and trademark to your domain (more on this below).
- **Branded product queries.** "[brand] phone mount" should land on your collection, not only on Amazon. Give each product line its own collection with the brand name in the title.
- **Links to your domain** from your social accounts, trade directory listings and press coverage.
- **Search Console on day one,** so you can see brand queries and click-through from the first week.

Brand queries also tell you how the site is doing before non-brand rankings arrive. If brand clicks to your domain grow month on month, trust is building.

## Earn the trust Amazon gave you for free

On Amazon, the marketplace vouches for you. On your own domain, you have to do it yourself. For Chinese brands selling to the US and Europe, this is often the difference between a site that ranks and one that doesn't.

- **A real About page:** who you are, where you're based, how long you've made the product, with real photos of real people.
- **Organization schema** with your trademarked brand name, logo and `sameAs` links to your Amazon storefront and social profiles.
- **Native English copy.** Machine-translated text reads badly and converts badly. Every page we publish is read and fact-checked by at least three people.
- **Clear policies:** shipping times, returns and warranty, with real contact details.
- **Reviews on your own site,** collected through a Shopify review app from your own customers.

## Get into Google Shopping and AI shopping

Your products probably already have GTINs from your Amazon listings. Put the same GTINs in Shopify's barcode field, connect the Google & YouTube app to Merchant Center, and your products can appear in Google's free listings. (If you sell under a GTIN exemption on Amazon, you'll need to handle product identifiers differently in Merchant Center.) Clean product data (titles, GTINs, prices, availability, shipping) also feeds AI shopping features. See our [ChatGPT Shopping](/geo-agency/chatgpt-shopping/) page.

## A 90-day build plan

| Weeks | Work |
| --- | --- |
| 1 to 2 | Pull Brand Analytics query data; research Google keywords and page one for each cluster; plan collections |
| 3 to 4 | Build the theme SEO-first: schema, speed, clean internal links; write new product copy |
| 5 to 8 | Publish money collections first, then guides and comparisons that link to them |
| 9 to 12 | Merchant Center, reviews and trust pages; start white-hat link building and digital PR |
| Ongoing | Weekly publishing and internal links; monthly reporting on revenue, rankings and traffic |

A brand-new domain takes longer to rank than an established one, and results depend on your niche and competitors. The automotive brand above had a DR 29 site before we started, which helped.

## The short version

1. Don't copy Amazon listing text. Rewrite for Google and for your own buyers.
2. Use Brand Analytics query data to plan collections around real buyer searches.
3. Build far more pages than you have products: collections, guides, comparisons.
4. Decide where Google traffic buys, and keep your prices consistent.
5. Build the trust signals Amazon used to give you for free.

## FAQs

### Should Amazon sellers build their own Shopify store?

Most established Amazon brands should, as long as their products carry enough margin to fund content. A Shopify store gives you customers you own, protection against listing suppressions and fee changes, and visibility on Google and AI search that Amazon doesn't provide. Small catalogs with low price points usually struggle to earn back the investment from organic search alone.

### Can I use my Amazon product descriptions on Shopify?

Use the facts, not the text. When the same copy appears on amazon.com and a new Shopify domain, Google usually has little reason to show the newer, weaker site. Rewrite product copy for Shopify with full specs, fitment or sizing tables, installation notes and comparisons, which Amazon's layout doesn't allow. Reuse your product photography freely.

### Can I import my Amazon reviews to Shopify?

Some review apps offer imports, but check Amazon's current policies before using them, and remember that reviews written on Amazon describe a purchase made on Amazon. We recommend mining Amazon reviews for FAQs and objections, then collecting fresh reviews from your Shopify customers with a review app. Those reviews can also feed product schema and Merchant Center.

### How long does it take a new Shopify store to rank on Google?

It depends on your niche, competitors and starting authority. A brand-new domain takes longer than a site that already has some links. In our automotive accessories case study, a site that started at DR 29 reached $758,772.94 in organic revenue in 7 months, after we published 360+ pages. Expect the first months to go mostly on building pages and links.

### What is the Amazon Brand Referral Bonus?

It's an Amazon program for Brand Registry sellers that pays a bonus on sales driven from outside Amazon, tracked through Amazon Attribution links. Amazon advertises an average of 10% of sales, with rates varying by category. Some brands use it alongside their Shopify store, sending part of their Google traffic to Amazon while the brand site builds trust.
